Ray Funk, J.D., is a retired district court judge from Fairbanks, Alaska who, for the past twenty years, has conducted extensive research on various elements of calypso, steelpan, and Carnival in Trinidad. A Fellow of the Academy of the University of Trinidad and Tobago, Mr Funk has published widely on the above topics in the Trinidad newspapers, Caribbean Beat, and scholarly journals.

In addition to his publications, Funk co-curated the traveling and online museum exhibit Calypso: A World Music—An Exhibition of Photographs and Illustrations of the International History of Calypso, 1930-1970 in 2007. His forthcoming book co-authored by Dr. Andrew Martin and Jeannine Remy, Celebration in Steel: Forty Years of the Northern Illinois University Steelband Martin and Funk chronicles the history of Liam Teague, Cliff Alexis, and the Northern Illinois Steelband. Since 2011, Martin and Funk have written a semi-regular newspaper column “Pan Worldwide” in the Trinidad Guardian.
