Dr Anthony Hailey
Dr Anthony Hailey began playing the steelpan as an undergraduate East Carolina University where he received his Bachelor of Music Degree. This experience propelled him to explore African and Caribbean music styles while pursuing post graduate studies at the West Virginia University. There he studied steelpan arranging, construction and tuning with one of Trinidad and Tobago’s renowned steelpan innovators, Ellie Mannette. Upon completing his Masters of Music degree, Dr. Hailey observed a growing interest in world music among music educators across the U.S. This awareness prompted him to pursue his Doctor of Musical Arts in World Percussion from West Virginia University, which he received in May 2005.
In 2006 Dr. Hailey founded Mosaic Steel Orchestra. Mosaic is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the community by providing no-fee steelband programs to at-risk youth. The organization’s vision is to promote diversity, personal growth and professional development.
