Bryon Serrette – VP Pan Trinbago , Richard Forteau – Secretary Pan Trinbago, Marie Toby – Chairman Tobago Region, Pan Trinbago, Roslyn Khan Cummings – Head of Secretariat and Clem James – ICP Secretariat met with Dr Angus Tsoi A Fatt and Administrative Assistant Ms Davidson in Tobago on 17 December to discuss hosting of ICP and partnership with the THA.
Breakfast with the ICP – September 30th 2014
Mr Keith Diaz, President of Pan Trinbago and members of the Steering Committee in collaboration with the ICP Secretariat held a Breakfast Meeting at the Radisson Hotel in Port of Spain to which the Corporate Sector, stakeholders and representatives of resident Diplomatic Missions were invited. The purpose of the event was the presentation of sponsorship and partnering opportunities with the International Conference and Panorama 2015.
In his Welcome Remarks the President spoke of recent initiatives embarked on such as the acquisition of a Drum Making machine, a pan Chroming facility and the hosting of the Inaugural International Conference and Panorama (ICP) in August 2015 in which 40 countries have been invited to participate.
Presentations were made by Roslyn Khan Cummings – Head of Secretariat, who gave an overview of the project and Bryon Serette Vice President of Pan Trinbago who focused on the International Panorama carded for August 9th, 2015 at the Queen’s Park Savannah as part of the International Conference on Steelpan.
Mrs Khan Cummings spoke on the opportunities for Corporate and Educational Outreaches as well as outlining the fore-runner events which will attract, engage, inspire and build audiences and gain media traction locally, regionally and internationally. Key national objectives of the ICP aim to promote community development, increase employment, promote exports, develop the manufacturing sector locally and globally, develop and increase technical capacity and promote international exchanges and relations with peoples from all participating countries and elsewhere.
Mr Serette addressed the mandate of the ICP to encourage and support the development of an International Panorama Competition, and he outlined rules and qualification for participation. He said ”an important feature associated with the event is the Panorama Village to be opened on the Wednesday preceding the International Panorama at which countries participating including resident Diplomatic Missions will be invited to mount booths to display cultural and other related services”.
There was active involvement by the audience in the Q&A which followed, which included representatives of TDC, TSTT, SIS, Angostura , Guardian Holdings, CAL, First Citizens, Scotiabank, Toyota, NLCB, GISL, THRTA and Government Ministries. Ray Funk renowned Ethnomusicologist lauded the project and spoke of the great opportunity for the more than 600 teachers of pan in the US who have never experienced the music in the home of the Pan.
There was general excitement of the prospects for the tourism sector and showcasing of T&T’s music and culture.
